Enduro Mayhem Round 1

It’s a wrap…

Well, what a ripper day that was. It was super exciting, and a bit nerve racking, but the Club successfully hosted it’s first ever Enduro mountain bike race. The weather gods played their part and looked after us with a nice dump of rain a couple of days before the event. Along with a nice raking the week before from our legendary Club volunteers, Flickety Sticks was running fast with loads of traction. Smiles all round. So good.

We had such an awesome turnout. The racing was fast and furious, but everyone was really chill. The format really promotes a relaxed atmosphere as everyone knows they get multiple runs, and another chance for a hot lap. The feedback from everyone was really positive and we can’t thank everyone enough for coming along, being awesome, and supporting the Club.

  • 100’s - smiles

Well done to all the riders. It was a great effort by everyone, and lots of fun. There were some super quick times posted on the day. Our leaders in each age category after Round 1 are:

  • Expert 19-29 - Lacey Adams

  • U17 & U19 Combined - Isabel Walton

  • Masters 1 & Masters 2 Combined - Dacqmar Guascoine

  • E-Bike - Nicole Rattray

Male

  • Expert 19-29 - Elijah Haensel

  • U17 & U19 Combined - Sidney Willis

  • U13 & U15 Combined - Lennox Daking

  • Masters 1 & Masters 2 Combined - Angus McLarty

  • Masters 3 & above - Mark Cornish

  • E-Bike - Duncan Willis

Huge congratulations to our current King & Queen of Mayhem leaders, Lacey Adams and Elijah Haensel.

Lacey put down 3 quick times, her last run being the quickest female run of the day, with a 5:45.70. Hot on her heals was Isabel Walton with a time of 5:48.44.

Elijah came up with 3 scorching runs, all good enough to win on the day, with his quickest run a 5:13.46. Plenty of riders within striking distance, including David Hume, Sidney Willis and Angus McLarty.

The battle will continue in Round 2 🔥🔥

Also, kudos to Sophia Brown and RJ Osborne who both punched out 6 laps for the day. Davey Harnett and Mark Cornish were next best with 5 each. Word on the street is that Mark pedalled up for every single one, and just missed the start gate for a 6th lap by 5 minutes. Super effort by all of them.

A huge shout-out to all our hard working, and passionate Club volunteers. An event like this wouldn’t be possible without them, so thank you team. You’re all wonderful humans. I heard many riders on race day thanking the volunteers which was wonderful to see. If you’re interested in joining the Derby Volunteer Army, and helping out at any of our Club events, you can register your interest here: https://www.derbymtbclub.com.au/volunteer.

A massive thanks to Emily Jaksch from the Pedalheads. What a bloody legend. The Pedalheads lent us their timing gear and other equipment for the series, and Emily came along for Round 1 to show us the ropes. Special thanks to local lads, Ben Angus from Bangers & Tash for designing our sick looking race plates, and Lee Slade from Pinpoint Signs for printing those bad boys. We appreciate your support.

Of course, none of this would be possible without our amazing event sponsors. We have some great prizes for all our series podium finishers at the conclusion of Round 3, as well as spot prizes throughout the series. We would like to extend a massive thank you to all our sponsors for supporting the club and the Enduro Mayhem series. Sponsor support for grass-roots events like this is vital, and we couldn’t do it without them. Please support our sponsors.

If you’re not already a club member elsewhere, we would love you to join. Become a part of the Derby MTB Club family. Club fees go towards our events, and also back into the Blue Derby Trail network. Enduro Mayhem Round 2 will take place on Saturday the 19th April. The Round 2 stage will be the 2nd descent of Return To Sender. Looking forward to that one. The Derby Trail Crew is eyeing off the B-line berm option at the rock slab finish for a bit of a tidy up, so there will be a ride-able line for all levels of rider. Plus, it’s the Easter Weekend, and Easter in Derby is always awesome. Chocolate eggs, and riding bikes. It doesn’t get much better than that. It will be a great time for the entire family. You could wear your favourite Easter outfit or accessories, or even decorate your bike. I’ve heard a rumour there could be chocolate prizes on offer 😉. Get all the details about Round 2 here: https://www.derbymtbclub.com.au/events/enduro-mayhem-round-2

Finally, as well as the race, the Club and other local community groups and businesses will be putting on an Easter Egg hunt on Easter Sunday morning. This is not to be missed. The kids will love it.

We hope to see you all again for Round 2. Thank you again for supporting Derby MTB Club. Check out Elijah’s edit of one of his 🔥 race runs below.
